| | | Dog-Harmony LifestylePeople often hear the term “pit bull” and immediately have an opinion of the dog’s character. Pit bulls are not a breed recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC). It is a catch-all term that often lumps together multiple breeds, including Staffordshire Bull Terrier, American Staffordshire Terrier, American Pit Bull Terrier, and many medium-sized, short-coated, mixed breed dogs with broad heads and a stocky or muscular build. Learn more about breed-specific legislation (BSL) and why it is so incredibly important to evaluate dogs as individuals, rather than as stereotypes, in the latest Lifestyle article. | |

| Our office hound, Chloe, was busy in the community this past month having a great time participating in two different Dog-Harmony Kids & Canines classes at the Emerald Coast Science Center and the Seaside School Foundation. Founder, Nancy Bown, and Chloe demoed how to read a lost dog’s microchip, reviewed canine body language, worked with the kids on recall, and demonstrated why it is so vitally important to teach kids (and families) responsible dog ownership so dogs don’t keep cycling through the shelters. | | | | | Aletha’s LegacyFounder and Liberian refugee, Zhalman Harris, returns to his native country in late November to continue work at the Children’s Future Program and Orphanage in Kakata. The non-profit is collecting donations of supplies, gifts, gift cards, or cash for the local purchase of these Christmas gifts for these very deserving kids. Follow Aletha’s Legacy for photos of happy children during Zhalman’s upcoming visit on Facebook or Instagram. | |
