Santa Rosa Beach, Fla. – Beach Dog Aqua Therapy will host its 2nd Annual Introduction to Canine Hydrotherapy benefitting Dog-Harmony, Inc. on June 19th from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at its headquarters in Santa Rosa Beach. For a minimum donation of $35 to Dog-Harmony, a family can book a 30-minute swim session for its dog with Certified Canine Hydrotherapist and Owner of Beach Dog Aqua Therapy, Diane Kenney. All the proceeds from the event will be donated to Dog-Harmony, which is a 501(c)3 dedicated to helping dogs rescue people through humane education and positive dog training.

Canine hydrotherapy is low-impact, water-based exercise for dogs of all ages that may be: overweight, recovering from surgery or an injury, suffering from degenerative diseases (i.e., arthritis or hip dysplasia), or just learning to swim. According to Sherri Cappabianca, the former owner of the Canine Fitness Institute and the original author of the CanauticsTM certification manual, “the natural buoyancy of the water reduces weight-bearing stress, allowing the dog greater ease of movement with less strain on his/her bones, joints and muscles.”

Kenney founded her company in Santa Rosa Beach in 2018 after becoming a Certified Canine Hydrotherapist at the Canine Fitness Institute in Orlando, FL. A lifelong animal rescue advocate and volunteer, Kenney identified a need for holistic health solutions for dogs in and out of the shelter. As a result, Beach Dog Aqua Therapy uniquely combines aqua therapy swim sessions with red light therapy and applications of customized blends of Young Living® essential oils based upon each dog’s individual needs.

In addition to numerous physical health benefits, aqua therapy also provides mental health benefits for dogs. Kenney utilizes a positive approach to help dogs overcome any fears of the water and to boost their confidence as a swimmer. Exercise in a positive environment may also help address behavioral issues by relieving stress and anxiety and providing the dog with an outlet to expel energy.

Beach Dog Aqua Therapy utilizes a heated, in-ground 16’ x 32’ pool with saline solution, which is gentle on the fur and skin. The pool temperature is maintained in the range of 82 - 92°F, depending on the specific treatment.
